Diastasis Recti Treatment is a separation of the abdominal muscles that often happens during pregnancy. Overview
When You Need Diastasis Recti Treatment
Diastasis recti does not always close on its own. If you notice a gap or ridge when you do a sit-up or curl, if your belly pouches forward even months after birth, or if your back pain has not improved with regular exercise, diastasis recti may be why. Doing the wrong exercises — like crunches or heavy lifting — can make the separation worse. A proper assessment tells you where you are and what is safe to do.
Signs You Should Come In
- ✔ A visible gap or ridge down the centre of your belly
- ✔ Core weakness that is not improving with regular exercise
- ✔ Back pain after pregnancy that has not resolved
- ✔ Belly that still pouches forward months after birth
- ✔ Unsure which exercises are safe after having a baby
How It Works
Our Diastasis Recti Treatment Process
We measure the width and depth of the gap and assess how your core is functioning as a whole. Treatment includes breathing and pressure management techniques, progressive core rehabilitation, and a specific exercise program that is safe for your stage of healing. We also teach you which movements to modify or avoid while you are recovering. Most women see real improvement within 8 to 12 weeks of consistent treatment.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I have diastasis recti?
A visible ridge or gap down the centre of your belly when you crunch or lift your head is a common sign. We measure the width and depth at your first appointment and assess how your core is functioning as a whole.
Will crunches close a diastasis?
No — crunches often make diastasis worse by increasing intra-abdominal pressure. Our program uses breath work, deep core activation, and graded loading instead.
How long does treatment take?
Most patients see meaningful improvement in 6 to 12 sessions. Progress depends on the gap size and how your deep core responds to training.
Is this covered by extended health?
Yes. Treatment is provided by a registered physiotherapist and is covered by most extended health plans. We direct bill.
